BrokenPictureTelephone

Patrick's picture

Everyone remember the game "Telephone" you would play in elementary school? One person whispers to the next person, who whispers to the next person, and so on... until the last person has to tell everyone what the first person said? Well imagine playing that with pictures involved over the Internet! That's what BrokenPictureTelephone is all about.

How is it played? Simply it starts with one person having to write a concept down like, "Adam feints at the sight of a spider and convulses." The next person in the queue will be required to draw a picture from those words. The next person in the queue will be required to describe the picture that was drawn without seeing the original description and so on. It continues like this until we reach the end of the rounds (15 by default although you can set more rounds if you wish). At the end, everyone can see all of the actual pictures, descriptions, etc. It's super-quick to respond to a drawing or description. I believe we don't all have to be on at the same time to play. You just play when it's your turn (which I believe you can be notified by email for). I haven't played a private game, so not 100% sure how it works.

I think it would be fun to play with this group. I want to setup a private game for the people who are interested... so basically I need those who are interested to sign up for an account. Once you have your account created and verified, please post in the comments what your username is and I'll setup a game after a few people have replied. My username is "Ophidiann".

Also, under the Account Settings (after you setup your account)... you can specify a few settings (most notably un-checking the "mature" content category so you don't get phallic drawings in your public games you might play. I'll check back in the comments later today for anyone who wants to join. :)

Also, just a quick couple examples of what completed games look like:
- Game 1
- Game 2
- Game 3

I told Adam about this at the last game night I was at...except I was referring to the old fashioned pen and paper version that the friend that introduced it to me called Telephone Pictionary.

Internet fads infiltrating the world or vice versa?

Do you already have an account?

No takers?

No one is interested?

I'll do it

I'm in the middle of some work now, but I'll sign up for an account later.

Created a private game!

I added Sue, Adam, Paterick, and May. I'm not sure who is up next...

Adam's picture

Sweet

I just created like five private games with you guys too. Though, a couple of them don't have Datrick, because I forgot to include him the first couple times (I was looking in comments for usernames, sorry Datrick!).

Adam can draw!

I'm impressed with how much detail you put into your drawing with a mouse AND under 10 minutes

Adam's picture

Mice are tough

Thanks for the compliment! It is really hard to draw with the mouse, I wish I had a tablet or something. I have to hit undo all the time as it is! I have a hard time drawing people (that aren't stick figures), but I like drawing animals. I've found that being able to draw lobsters, elephants, aliens and robots goes a long way in the BrokenPictureTelephone game, as sooo many games make you draw one of those things.

Adam's picture

Ha!

I just noticed that in one random game, both myself, Susan and Datrick all participated (Susan drew, Datrick and I wrote):

Hehe

That's funny. I usually don't pay much attention to the player names, but I'll have to start keeping an eye out.

None of the games I started have finished yet. What's up with that? They weren't super long either.

Adam's picture

Me neither

I started five or six (some long, some not), and haven't seen any end yet.
