But I'm not too excited about the science. They just found (another) bacteria that uses sulfate to get it's energy instead of oxygen. This isn't novel, and there are lots of examples of this already existing. The only kind of weird thing is that no other organisms live down in the gold mine at all either, though given the harsh environment this isn't all that surprising either.
I really should listen to NPR more. I used to really enjoy listening to it when I used to drive to work (like 8 years ago).
